What is Chocolate Mousse?

Chocolate mousse is a popular dessert made up of chocolate, cream, eggs and sugar. It has the consistency of a dense foam or whipped cream. When made properly, it’s light, delicious and perfect for serving up at dinner parties or enjoyed as a mid-week treat.

How to store Chocolate Mousse

If you are making a chocolate mousse to be enjoyed a bit later, it needs to be stored in the fridge before consumption. In fact, when making a chocolate mousse, it’s important to remember that it should be left in the fridge for at least four hours before enjoying, but we recommend making it the night before and leaving it for 24 hours to set. After that, it’s ready to enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 200g Godiva dark chocolate (or your preferred Godiva chocolate)
  • 240ml double cream
  • 3 large eggs, separated
  • 50g granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Whipped cream and chocolate shavings for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Chocolate:

    • Chop the Godiva chocolate into small pieces for easy melting.
    • Melt the chocolate using a double boiler or in the microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring after each interval until smooth. Allow it to cool slightly.
  2. Whip the Egg Whites:

    • In a clean, dry bowl, whip the egg whites with a pinch of salt until stiff peaks form. Set aside.
  3. Whip the Cream:

    • In another bowl, whip the double cream until soft peaks form.
  4. Combine Egg Yolks and Sugar:

    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and sugar until the mixture becomes pale and slightly thickened.
  5. Add Chocolate and Vanilla:

    • Gradually add the melted Godiva chocolate to the egg yolk mixture, stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Add vanilla extract and mix well.
  6. Fold in Whipped Cream:

    • Gently fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture until well combined. Be careful not to deflate the whipped cream.
  7. Fold in Egg Whites:

    • Next, fold in the whipped egg whites into the chocolate mixture until no white streaks remain. This will give the mousse a light and airy texture.
  8. Chill:

    • Divide the mousse into serving glasses or bowls. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the mousse to set.
  9. Garnish (Optional):

    • Before serving, you can garnish the chocolate mousse with a dollop of whipped cream and chocolate shavings for an extra touch of decadence.
  10. Serve and Enjoy:

    • Once chilled and set, your Godiva Chocolate Mousse is ready to be served. Enjoy the rich, velvety goodness!
